TODAY: Shomrim Distributing Vegetables and Dairy Products

Building on its two year tradition, Shomrim has once again organized a free distribution of essential Pesach foods, from vegetables to fruits, dairy products and many items in between.

Throughout the evening yesterday, Wednesday, hundreds of families benefited, and Shomrim has managed to secure another two truckloads of items today. The distribution will resume today, Thursday, at 6:00pm in the parking lot of Beis Rivkah Lefferts [entrance from East New York and Brooklyn].

There is no need to be on any lists or have any vouchers, everyone is welcome to come and take whatever they feel they need. There is B”H no shortage of all the items.

This Monday a Ta’anis Shaos, a fast day will be held for Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin. His family and friends are requesting Yidden storm the heavens with prayer for the immediate release of Reb Sholom Mordechai HaLevi Ben Rivka.

PSA: Daylight Saving Time Begins Tonight

Weekend Reminder: Spring Forward! Daylight Saving Time is here, so don’t forget to turn your clocks forward an hour.

This Sunday, March 14, some three weeks earlier than usual, Daylight Saving Time kicks in at 2 a.m. and will last until the first Sunday in November. Based on the passage of the 2005 Energy Policy Act that takes affect this year, DST has been extended by four weeks. Typically, DST begins the first Sunday in April and runs through the last Sunday in October.

The theory behind DST is that people make better use of the extended daylight hours. With longer “synthetic sunshine” consumers have less need for lights, and other appliances. Studies show that energy demand is directly connected to bedtime. During DST, the sun is already up by the time most people wake. Less energy is needed to light the home, so less energy is consumed overall.
