With Israel’s cottage cheese protests all but forgotten, the consumer public is targeting Strauss-Elite, the second largest company in Israel, unwilling to accept what is perceived as price gouging. Organizers of the grassroots protest point out that it is simply unacceptable that in Israel, where the products are manufactured, they pay significantly more than shoppers in North America.

Video: Jew Who Was Expelled from Israel Interviewed

Shneur Zalman Haskelevitch, 35, an orthodox Jew who grew up in Crown Heights, was banned from Israel in 2005. The rare move was taken by Israel in the wake of an intelligence investigation, after it was discovered that he had visited six Arab countries, including Iraq during the U.S. invasion. This week, Kikar Shabbos met up with him in his home in Morocco, and heard all about his unique day-to-day life.

Plans for a women’s division of Hatzalah dedicated to assisting in emergency births have been scrapped as the women, after consulting with a respected Brooklyn rabbi, have instead decided to create their own independent volunteer service, titled Ezras Nashim, that will be staffed entirely by women.

Confirmed: Sardines Are Kosher

Just so you know: Canned sardines are kosher. This judgment would appear to be definitive, based on DNA evidence. Genetic testing by a parasitologist at the American Museum of Natural History has confirmed that the recent discovery of small worms in canned sardines does not render them treyf, or unkosher. It may render them unappetizing, but that judgment is up to the consumer.

In New Delhi, India on Monday, the wife of an Israeli diplomat was injured when a bomb attached to her car exploded while she was driving. Just after dropping her kids off to school, according to Israeli media accounts, the bomb detonated. She was able to complete the drive to the Israeli Embassy where she was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
