Chabad Lubavitch of the Poconos invites everyone to experience one of the most joyous events in Jewish history. Purim marks the time when Queen Esther intervened to foil a plot to wipe out every Jewish man, woman and child living in Persia.

Ever since that miraculous time in 365 B.C., Jews have observed Purim, the 14th day of Adar on the Hebrew calendar, by reading the biblical Book of Esther, having a festive meal, giving gifts to the poor and food to friends.

“It’s a festive day, a happy day,” said Rabbi Mendel Bendet, who heads the local Chabad Lubavitch.

Crown Heights Riot Fiend Lemrick Goes Free

SOURCE: NYPost

By: Kati Cornell Smith

March 21, 2005 — Less than 14 years after the death of a Hasidic scholar stabbed at the peak of the Crown Heights riots, the man who wielded the knife is walking free.

Lemrick Nelson, 29, has been released from a halfway house where he lived for nine months while finishing a 10-year federal prison sentence for violating the civil rights of Yankel Rosenbaum.

Nelson’s lawyers told The Post he is working full-time in the bakery industry and intends to continue his education. “He’s looking to put all this behind him. But there’s not a day that goes by when he doesn’t think of Yankel Rosenbaum,” attorney Peter Quijano said.

Nelson, who was released earlier this month, was spared a possible life sentence in 2003 when a federal jury found that, although he stabbed Rosenbaum, he didn’t cause his death.

He is now living with his mother in New Jersey while he serves a 27-month term of probation, sources said.

Rosenbaum’s relatives believe it’s only a matter of time before Nelson engages in new violence.

“Lemrick Nelson is a bad person. Until I see something tangible to the contrary, he’s a threat to society,” the victim’s brother, Norman Rosenbaum, said in a phone interview.

Nelson was 16 years old when he attacked Rosenbaum, 29 on Aug. 19, 1991, during race riots sparked by the death of a black child who’d been struck by a car in the grand rebbe’s motorcade.

He beat a state murder rap the following year, but was convicted of federal civil-rights violations in 1997. A judge sentenced him to nearly 20 years, but an appeals court later tossed that verdict based on jury-selection problems.

Nelson’s 2003 retrial finally resulted in a standing conviction for violating Rosenbaum’s civil rights.

Hightend Missionary Activities In Our Neighborhood!

People, Parents, please be aware and keep an eye out for such activity, these people disguise well and they know how to talk “nicely” KEEP AWAY FROM THEM.

Last night I noticed on my doorstep 2 inconspicuous books and at first glance I thought that they were ArtScroll Seforim that someone had left so I bent down to pick it up and how shocked I was to discover in both Hebrew and English written “הברית החדשה” and “New Testament”. Here is a picture.

Please make sure that no one has accidentally brought these books into your home unknowingly, they are what the Rebbe once referred to certain books as “Bomb’s in you House” so get rid of them in a way that none can come to harm by them.

“God willing, a proud Jewish settlement will be built in this place,” said Baruch Ben-Yosef, who stood on a barren hilltop just south of Ma’aleh Hever near Hebron on Sunday.

About 100 people gathered on the wind-swept hill called Mitzpor Ziv, the scene of the accidental killings of Ben-Yosef’s son, Yehuda, and Yoav Doron.

Two years ago this Sunday, the two young men, just out of the army, were killed by soldiers who mistook them for terrorists. Ben-Yosef and Doron were guarding an outpost built on the hilltop.

Ani Maamin – I Believe

Although he was centered in Otvoczk, Rebbe Shaul Yedidya Elazar of Modzitz had Chasidim throughout the major towns and cities of Poland. One of these was Reb Azriel David Fastag, who became noted for his exceptional voice throughout Warsaw. Many came to the shul where Reb Azriel David would pray on the High Holy Days.

Reb Azriel David’s happiness came from the world of negina – song. His moving tunes made their way to Otvoczk, where Rebbe Shaul Yedidya Elazar appreciated them immensely. The day a new niggun (tune) of Reb Azriel David’s came to Rebbe Shaul Yedidya Elazar was like a “Yom Tov” for him.

The clouds of Nazism began to cover the skies of Europe. Most Jews could not fathom what was about to befall them. Only a few “read the map” correctly and managed to escape to safe havens. One of them was the Modzitzer Rebbe, whose Chasidim made a tremendous effort to save him. As the Nazis entered Poland, the Chasidim smuggled him out of Poland to Vilna (Lithuania), and from there he made his way across Russia to Shanghai, China, eventually arriving in America in 1941.

Fallen astronaut’s diary recovered

Experts piece together notebook used by Israeli during Columbia mission

The Associated Press
Updated: 6:45 p.m. ET Feb. 26, 2005

NEW ORLEANS – A small heap of paper that survived the fiery
disintegration of space shuttle Columbia, a 38-mile fall to Earth and
two months of exposure to rain and sun in a Texas field has been
painstakingly restored by forensic scientists, yielding the flight
diary and notes of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon.

Scientists used computer image-enhancement technology and infrared
light to read the charred and tattered pages and pieced some of them
together like jigsaw puzzles.

Not everything could be deciphered. But Sharon Brown, the Israeli
police document examiner who pieced the material together, said she was
amazed that the metal-ring cardboard-bound notebook had even survived.

Ambulance hits minivan on call to an emergency

COL.ORG.IL – Osher Litzman

Last night a FDNY Ambulance was responding to an emergency call, racing up Troy Ave. while apparently not having his sirens on, hit a minivan that was crossing the Crown St. and Troy Ave. intersection.

Just looking at the extensive damage and then later hearing that the driver only went into shock and no physical injury, I must say this a a miracle.
