Daytona Beach News

ORMOND BEACH, FL — Attending a Jewish parochial school is normally a privilege reserved for children in the largest cities, as a local rabbi and his benefactor can attest.

Morris Esformes, the owner of three nursing homes in Volusia County, left home at age 13 to attend a Jewish boarding school in Chicago.

Charge of Negligent Homicide for Boy, 8, in School Bus Death

The New York Times
EMT’s, Paramedics and Fire Fighters huddled over Amber in attempt to save her life.

An 8-year-old boy who climbed into a parked school bus, released the emergency brake and sent 26,000 pounds of steel rolling through Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Monday was charged yesterday with criminally negligent homicide in the death of Amber Sadiq, 8, who was crushed between the bus’s right undercarriage and a street pole.

The boy, Tafari James, had been suspended from second grade on Friday for climbing onto another unattended bus, officials said yesterday in Family Court in Downtown Brooklyn.

Investigators said it was unclear whether he released the brake on Monday intentionally. Witnesses saw him board the bus alone, on Nostrand Avenue near Crown Street, around 3:15 p.m. He rode the bus as it gathered speed down a slight incline and jump off as it thudded to a halt after traveling 100 feet, the police said.

Israir Airlines on Board with Chabad

Rabbi Pinchas Althaus directing pre-pesach activities of Israir employees

Ever since Israir Airlines came to the aid of Chabad’s Hurricane relief efforts in New Orleans in 2005, the airline has become well-known to Lubavitchers as a company that cares about Chabad and its causes. Since the launch of their first flights between New York and Tel Aviv, Israel’s second largest airline has been closely connected with Chabad in Israel and New York. The airline’s officially appointed Rabbi is a Lubavitcher himself, and therefore all aspects requiring supervision are executed to the strictest of standards.

Rabbi Pini Althaus, Rabbi of Schunat Rasko in Cholon, Israel, and representative of the Chief Rabbinate of Russia in Israel, holds the position as Rabbi of Israir Airlines. Included in his duties is the selecting of companies that supply food for distribution on Israir’s aircrafts, and for ensuring that each item selected possesses a proper hechsher according to the strictest standards.

8 Year Old Girl Killed By Runaway School Bus

At around 3:20 this afternoon a non jewish 8 year old girl standing at the corner of Crown St. and Nostrand Ave. was struck and killed by a School Bus owned and operated by the Jofaz Bus Company. The bus had been parked on Nostrand between Carroll and Crown and according to eyewitnesses there were kids playing on the bus.

The cause of the accident was under investigation. Investigators are looking into the possibility that kids had gotten onto the vehicle, were playing, and somehow released the emergency brake, sending the bus rolling down Nostrand Ave. and when it reached Crown St. the had gone up onto the sidewalk running over the child.

FDNY EMS along with FDNY and NYPD responded in massive numbers only to stand and look at the tragedy before them, they had no way of getting the bus off the child, luckily a ConEd truck with a light crane had just been passing, and with it they raised the bus and freed the child who was then rushed to Kings County Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine who painted swastikas and a hate-filled message on the windows of a Jewish book and gift shop.

The graffiti was found at YiddishKeit inside the Mission Bay Plaza at U.S. 441 and Glades Road, west of Boca Raton. There were four swastikas and a message that said, “Burn the Jews” drawn in white paint or shoe polish.

Similar messages were found on a Chrysler Voyager minivan in the shopping center parking lot. The car belonged to a florist in the shopping center who is not Jewish, sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera said. The florist was out of town when the incident happened, Barbera said.

A Woman’s Harrowing Experience this past Motzoai Shabbos

This is an email I got from a woman who was attacked and assaulted in her car. People read this and take a lesson from it!

UPDATE: After receiving numerous emails and comments about the possibility of the being a false story, I will clarify and tell you that this did indeed happen, verified before being published, almost exactly as told here by the victim. [Please consider the woman’s state of mind, which must have affected the way she remembered what had happened]

Last night I had a terrifying experience on Nostrand Ave [and Lincoln Pl.].

Ladies should NEVER drive alone at night if they can help it. they should keep doors & windows locked, NEVER get out of the car if there’s an incident, sound the horn continuously.

I was on my way to Flatbush and saw a car driving without headlights on, so I flashed it… apparently you become a gang member’s next victim when you do this.

Coralie Pryde has made six trips in 10 months to the New Castle County Land Use Department to see what she believes are public records about a building project in the 1800 block of Silverside Road in Talleyville.

Pryde opposes the project because she says the proposed Chabad Lubavitch Enrichment Center is too big for the land it will sit on, does not have adequate parking, will disrupt traffic and infringes on the border of a stream that occasionally floods the neighborhood.

Rabbi Y.Y. Jacobson Delivers Pilpul In Honor Of His Father A”H

Click Here to listen to an audio recording of the Shiur! (First few minutes missing)

Chovevei Torah Zal – Thursday evening at the onset of Night Seder Rabbi K. Weinfeld announced the shiur being delivered by the yeshivas’mashpia R’ Y. Y. Jacobson. The shiur which was dedicated to the late R’ Jacobson A”H, whos’ first yartzeit was Thursday, was attended by the entire beis medrash, as well as bochurim from other yeshivos and 770, and lasted approximately one and a half hours.

It started off explain the difference of opinion between Rashi and Tosfos on the topic of shmitos and yovlos in the various eras of Judaism. He then went on to explain the Gemora in Berochos 27a, regarding the story of the Nassi R’ Gamliel and R’ Yehoshua Ben Levi. After which came the mystical meanings behind the different aspects of the story, and the seeming argument between the Yerushalmi and Bavli Gemoras. Which brought us all back around to the explanation of why during the era of the first Beis Hamikdash both Shmita & Yovel were observed, whereas during the era of the second Beis Hamikdash only Shmita was observed and Yovel was counted just to keep track of the proper calendar for Shmita, and finally during the eras of between the two Botei Mikdoshim and after the second Beis Hamikdash only Shmita was observed and Yovel was entirely disregarded, even just to keep track of the 50th year for the Shmita calendar. He tied these different eras in with the varying levels of kedusha present at those times, and compared it to three eras;
