Crown Heights, Brooklyn — Yesterday, Sunday, a young girl was playing with her friends at a construction site near her home on President St fell into a gap between a few stacks of bricks, and could not get herself out. The girls friends quickly ran to call for help and the father came to see what he could do.

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — In a beautiful program setup for children and parents many participated and enjoyed themselves. Live music was played by Yossi Cohen and Yossi Fraenkel accompanied him with his singing. The program began with the 12 Pesukim being recited by boys and girls following a Lag Baomer story told by R. Levi Goldstien.

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — Yesterday evening Keren Simchas Chosson VeKallah held its second annual ‘Ice Cream Social’. Many women baked cakes that were displayed for all to see, and then the lucky participants were able to ‘bid’ on the cakes Chinese auction style. There were over 45 cakes on display.

Still-unsolved May 2006 arson that razed 6 blocks a sore point for nabe
A year after the city’s largest inferno in a decade engulfed 15 buildings along the Brooklyn waterfront, the historic site of the Greenpoint Terminal Market remains a charred wasteland and a sore spot for locals.
Nobody has been convicted in the arson fire that broke out on May 2, 2006, and eventually took 6 million gallons of water to extinguish. And nothing has been developed on the scorched earth where the warehouses once stood.

Monroe, NY — For 33 years, Dan Alon didn’t speak about the day back in 1972 when 11 of his fellow Israeli athletes were killed at the Munich Olympics. Alon, Israel’s champion fencer, said he didn’t want to open the wounds.
On Thursday, Alef Iyar/April 20th a meeting of all local Mosdos together with the Vaad organizing the Lag B’omer parade took place at the NCFJE headquarters. At the meeting the principals were updated with the latest information regarding the parade, in order that the schools will be able to participate in an organized and coordinated fashion.

Ra’anana, Israel — As the Librescu family completed its final days of sitting shiva for their slain husband and father, a representative of the Chabad on Campus National Foundation presented them with a book of more than 1,450 condolences. The well-wishes – some from as far away as India and written in a smattering of languages, including Professor Liviu Librescu’s native Romanian – were submitted to a page on the Chabad on Campus Web site, www.Chabad.edu, that went online less than a day after last week’s April 16 shooting rampage on the Blacksburg, Va., campus of Virginia Tech that left 32 students and faculty dead.
In an interesting reproduction of his famous song “Siman Tov U’Mazal Tov” Avi Piamenta created a unique and interesting A cappella song, in which all sounds recorded are done by mouth, with no instrument accompanying, thereby making this music allowed in the Sefirah.

At 7:00pm last night, a hatcholas sefer torah l’iluy nishmas R. Gedaliah Yerachmiel ben Michel (Shaffer) was held on the second floor of the Jewish Children’s Museum. Family members and close friends participated in writing the first few pesukim of B’raishis on a chelek of klaf honoring a man whose whole life was devoted to and imbued with Torah.
