Op-Ed: Yeshiva Tuition Crises

Levi is 16 years old. He just took a 18 hour painful trip home from the Holy Land, where he studied very successfully in a good yeshiva, for over a year now.

We are Shluchim of the Rebbe and live in woop woop land, and there is no chinuch for our kids here. Levi loved every day of Yeshiva, and we were very proud to receive awesome reports from the Hanhala, throughout the year.

These years as we know are the forming years of a child’s growth in yiddishkeit, they make it in the right environment, or break it, c”v.

Rabbi Demonstrates Ancient Skill of Torah Making

DALLAS, TX — A turkey feather. The tendons and tail hairs of cows. These are the basic tools of Faitel Lewin’s trade.

Rabbi Lewin is a sofer, a modern-day practitioner of an ancient and essential Jewish craft: scribing Torahs. With his turkey quill pen, he writes the full text of the Bible’s first five books, Genesis through Deuteronomy, in Hebrew on sheets of parchment prepared from animal skins. Then he wraps and stitches them into a pliable scroll with his bovine threads.

The Exhilaration of Intention

I just had an amazing realization during a keynote address I gave to the Chabad of California annual rabbis’ conference.

The realization was, and is, that I am here in this world for a Purpose. A Purpose I have never understood. But a Purpose which, as I spoke to the Chabad Schluchum (rabbis), became as clear to me as anything I have ever felt or experienced.

TZFAS, Israel [CHI] — The month started off with a Siyum on Gemora on Rosh Codesh by Hatomim Chaim Shimon Dubov and Hatomim HaShliach Shlomo Yager. It was very inspiring to hear Rabbi ‘O’rimland, Rosh HaYeshiva, speak about a bochur who came to the yeshiva saying I can’t, I can’t, I can’t!!! Today, besides the siyum he is also finishing Basar V’Cholov.

Holy Sheep – The Far Reaching Effects of Shlichus

Approximately 25 years ago, I, together with another seven Bachurim from Oholei Torah merited to be sent by the Rebbe on Shlichus for two years from Oholei Torah to Casablanca, Morocco.

In addition to our mission of learning in the Yeshiva between ourselves and also with members of the community, our outreach to the community at large was through the activities of Tzivot Hashem under the leadership and guidance of the late Shliach, Reb Yehuda Leib (Leibel) Raskin OBM.

Elana Kasle Safely Flown To Michigan

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL [CHI] — Thursday 24 Shvat, on the 120th Yahrzeit of Rebbitzen Menuchah Rochel, zy”a, Elana Leah bas Sheindel Rochel Kasle was Boruch Hashem safely flown on an ambulance jet to Michigan, where she is now in a “interim” rehab center in Southfield, Michigan, minutes away from her home.

Last Word – From a Student’s Eyes

KIEV, Ukraine — Many times in life you may find yourself with opportunities that spark your interest. When a spiritual pilgrimage to Ukraine was presented to our school, the response was filled with enthusiasm and excitement. This trip would include a variety of Lubavitch girls from all corners of the earth and together returning to their Chassidic roots. The trip too, would consist of visits to all the holy Tzadikim from the small city of Haditch, Kiev, and the small town of Mezibush, the resting place and synagogue of Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov.

Reb Avrohom HaRofe – The Rebbe’s Doctor

The following article is being published in honor of the the Yohrtziet of Reb Avrohom HaRofe – Dr. Seligson on the 25th of Shavt (1989-2008).

Reb Avrohom HaRofe – Dr. Seligson Our Sages tell us (Tractate Shekalim chapter 5) that there were people who were responsible for certain daily functions in the Bais Hamikdosh. The Mishna gives us the names of those who held these positions. The Rebbe asks (Likutei Sichos vol.22 pg. 147) how is it possible that for 420 years, over the course of many different generations, all the appointed people had the same personal name? The Rebbe explains that the name they had was actually the title of their specific function.
