Mayanot and Birthright: Participants Say it’s the Opportunity of a Lifetime

Philadelphia, PA — As the first groups of Chabad on Campus students return home this week from their 10-day free trips to Israel, all courtesy of Taglit-birthright Israel and Mayanot, another slew of plane-loads are gearing up to take the next batch. All told, a full 2,500 students and alumni will make the trek to Israel this summer, Mayanot’s largest contingent ever.

New Center seen as sign of Thriving Jewish Community

Oklahoma City, OK — A new Jewish community center planned for northwest Oklahoma City is a sign of growth and diversity for the metro area, Jewish leaders said this week.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Chabad Community Center for Life and Learning is set for Sunday at 3000 W Hefner Road. Rabbi Ovadia Goldman said the site is west of May Avenue and Hefner Road.

“The city is growing, and the Jewish community is growing,” said Stephen Tanenbaum of Oklahoma City.

As the holiday of Shavuot approaches Shluchim seem to be taking the opportunity to welcome a new Sefar Torah into their Shuls and Chabad Houses.

Today, Sunday nine of the ten events will be taking place in Chabad Houses in Franklin Lakes, NJ, Allentown, PA, Hollywood, FL, Santa Fe, NM, Camarillo, CA, Plano, TX, Redondo Beach, CA and Plainview, Long Island along with one more dedication here in Crown Heights.

Shomrim Return Missing Person on Friday Night

At around 2:00am on Friday night the Shomrim hotline received a call from a frantic mother saying that her son who’s 30 years old with a history of mental heath issues did not return home since leaving to Shul at 8:00pm.

A number of members responded and began grid searching the neighborhood on foot, and after a short 20 minutes they found him roaming the streets in the vicinity of 770. A Shomrim member wrapped him in his jacket and notified the other units that he had been found, and together they walked him home.

Police Launch Two Week ‘Buckle Up’ Campaign

State police and hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across New York are about to launch a two-week seat belt enforcement blitz.

State police officials say their troopers and officers from more than 500 police agencies will be setting up safety restraint checkpoints throughout New York starting Monday and running through June third.

The enforcement measures are timed to coincide with the Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of the summer travel season.

Seventh Consecutive Year of a Collective Hachana

As Gimmel Tammuz is rapidly approaching, 4,000 Talmidim in the Rebbe’s Yeshivos around the world, are uniting in an intense study cycle of Sichos and Maamorim to strengthen their connection to the Rebbe in preparation for the day, with the hope that very soon we will be reunited with the Rebbe leading us to the Geulah Shleimah.

Shoneh Halachos is a program for eighth grade boys to encourage and guide them in the study of Halacha with the Alter Rebbe’s Psak which is clearly explained through notations made by Rabbi Levi Bistritzky a”h – former Rav pf Tzfat. Established by the Igud Menahalei Yeshivos of Crown Heights for Oholei Menachem and United Lubavitcher Yeshiva of Crown Street in the goal to expand the knowledge of Halacha and Yiras Shamayim of the talmidim of our community.

Two New Shuls open in Crown Heights!

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — This past Shabbos (Parshas Behar-Bechukosai) was the grand opening of a 2 new Shuls in Crown Heights. Bais Eliezer Yitzchok, in memory of Rabbi Lazer Levy OBM, is located at 394 Kingston Avenue, near the corner of Montgomery Street, and another Shul called Mishkan Menachem.

Leeds Now Home to United Kingdom’s Fifth Campus Chabad House

Leeds, England — When the University of Leeds’ Jewish students return to classes come this fall, they’ll have more than one occasion to celebrate. The first: The arrival of Rabbi Michoel and Chana Sorah Danow to the northern England university will mark the opening of the third campus Chabad House in the United Kingdom this year. The second, flowing naturally from the first, will be the Danow’s oldest son’s bar mitzvah.

Chabad, which is known as the Jewish Center for Living and Learning, currently rents space on Bower Hill Road at the Bower Hill Swim Club, but has purchased its own building in Mt. Lebanon, with plans to move by fall.
