Hungarian president Katalin Novák toured the historic Mád synagogue and historic Yeshiva building in advance of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, marking her first official visit with the Jewish community since her election as president in March. Shlomo Köves, Chief Rabbi of Chabad-affiliated EMIH and his wife Rebetzen Devorah accompanied the president during her stay.

The minister was surprised to learn that among the hosts were three of Ukraine’s leading rabbis who granted him a “Token of Salvation” for his assistance to the Jewish communities in Ukraine.
