Australian Art Hub to Get Mikvah Worthy of its Reputation

Malvern, Australia — A Melbourne suburb which was once the home to seven Victorian governors and now has become something of an artsy oasis for the country’s intellectual set, is getting a new mikvah.

The Jewish ritual bath, which will be decorated with greenery and will boast a plush waiting room, has been designed with the goal of attracting more woman to the observance of family purity laws.

And partly in deference to its surroundings, right above the pool’s entrance will hang a mural depicting a sunset, which happens to be right around the time women go to the mikvah.

Jewish Camp Wraps Up in Mogilev

Mogilev, Belarus – In Belarus, the ‘Gan Israel’ Camp operating in the city of Mogilev has drawn to a close for the season. This fun and educational three week retreat was organized by the Jewish community of Mogilev, a member of the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus and Chabad Lubavitch.

Jewish Youth Seminar Wraps Up in Volgograd

Volgograd, Russia – This week in Russia’s Volga Region, the Jewish community of Volgograd hosted the international seminar ‘Jewish WorldView ‘. The event involved 33 youth from 13 different settlements across Russia and Ukraine, some of whom attended such an event for the first time. Many others were glad to meet up with friends they made at last year’s gathering.

Jewish Community Welcomes its New Rabbi

In a decade of living in the Mexican tourist hub that is Cancun, Samuel Rovero, 40, has dedicated much of his time to building up the local Jewish community. He helped found the community center in 1997, and two years ago, served as president of the 200-strong community.

But there was still something missing for Rovero: the presence of a rabbi, the kind of central authority the businessman remembers anchoring the tightly-knit Jewish community in his hometown of Guadalajara.
