Half a century later, it happened. By now he was Rabbi Yosef Langer, and when the San Francisco Giants desperately needed a hit they called on him — to blow his shofar.

Unfortunately on that evening in August of last year, Langer’s shofar blast did not spur the team to victory. But when the stadium’s scoreboard operators coined the term “Rally Rabbi,” 40,000 fans roared in approval.

While reviewing legislative border security measures last week, Congress approved a bill that actually lowers the bar in the U.S. Visa Waiver program.

New York, NY — Carl Redding, a chef who owns the Harlem soul food restaurant Amy Ruth’s, has a routine that takes him out of the kitchen one afternoon every week. Mr. Redding, who works on the side as a freelance photojournalist, makes a trip to Midtown to stock up on a few hundred dollars’ worth of photography supplies at B &H Photo, the large photo and video store on Manhattan’s West Side.

“They have the best prices, and whatever I’m looking for is almost guaranteed to be in stock,” Mr. Redding said.

Chabad of Queens College celebrated the opening of its new home on Sunday with a sushi-and-salad buffet and charity auction.

Queens College president James Muyskens addressed the gathering of 75 students with words of praise for Chabad-Lubavitch’s three-year involvement on the campus. Pointing to Chabad House directors Rabbi Shaul Wertheimer and his wife Tzipah, he said, “My message here tonight is ‘Thank you.’”
