The Previous Rebbe: a short biography

Yud Shvat (the Tenth of Shvat) is the Previous Rebbe’s yahrzeit, the anniversary of his passing. On the day of a tzaddik’s passing, “all his effort… for which he toiled throughout his life… becomes revealed and radiates downward… at the time of his passing.”Accordingly, Yud Shvat is an appropriate day to focus on the message of the Previous Rebbe’s life, for every year, these same spiritual qualities are revealed on this anniversary.

This revelation affects all of “his children, the work of his hands,” those who “will walk in his paths for eternity.” This is particularly true in regard to the yahrzeit of a nasi, a leader of the Jewish people. For a nasi is connected to every member of his generation; as Rashi states, “The nasi is the entire people.”

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Wednesday afternoon the community celebrated a Siyum and Hachnasas Sefer Torah, in honor of Rebbitzin Cherna Ushpol and HaRav HaChossid Yitzchok Dovber Ushpol OBM. The Sefer Torah was led in a traditional procession, with an escort from the CPU division 71st Precinct to 770, where hakafos was held.

SARATOV, Russia — Jews residing in the southern Russian city of Saratov, affectionately known by locals as “Students’ City” in deference to its many universities, welcomed a new Torah scroll to the Great Choral Synagogue on occasion of the shul’s 100th anniversary. Young and old celebrated by dancing throughout the cultural hub’s streets.

Davening Times in the Rebbes House

Throughout Yud Shvat, the day of the Histalkus of the Frierdiker Rebbe and the day the Rebbe accepted the Nessius, the Rebbes house will be open for Tefilos. Times are as follows:

Wednesday 9th of Shvat: Maariv – 6:45pm for 770 Bochurim, Smicha Bochurim and Kvutzeh Bochurim.

Thursday 10th of Shvat: Shacharis – 9:30am for Zal Bochurim.
Mincha – 3:15pm for Mesivta Bochurim.
