CEDAR RAPIDS, IA [CHI] — An Iowa judge ruled that Sholom Rubashkin will be freed on bail later this week, overturning the original, unfair decision to deny him freedom based on his religious background. Advocates for Mr. Rubashkin praised the decision as a victory for equal rights and religious freedom.
“Justice prevailed today,” said Guy Cook, Mr. Rubashkin’s attorney. “Judge Reade protected this man's constitutional rights! She made those rights come alive!”
Mr. Rubashkin will be freed on $500,000 bail this Thursday, and he must surrender his birth certificate and family passports. He also pledged not to contact a list of people related to the case and to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. The judge ruled that more extreme measures, such as armed guards or additional surety, were not necessary.

BREAKING: Judge Grants Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin Bail
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — Sholom Rubashkin, the former top executive at the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville, should be released from custody on $500,000 bond while he awaits trial on multiple federal counts of bank fraud and of helping illegal immigrants obtain false documents, a judge ruled this morning
Rubashkin has been in federal custody since Nov. 14. Prosecutors had contended he might flee if let out of jail.
Rubashkin is expected to be released from jail Thursday morning.

On average, Con Ed charged 21.58 cents for a kilowatt-hour of electricity in 2007 - more than twice the national average of 9.13 cents.

The Torah was completed at the home of Rabbi Sholom Ber Hurwitz in Flatbush and then a procession was led down Ocean Parkway all the way to United Lubavitcher Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway where all the Talmidim greeted the Torah, which proceeded with ‘Atah Horaisah’ and Hakofos.
