Police and Press all over Crown Heights following Bias Incident

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Starting Shabbos afternoon, the 71st Precinct reacted to the racially motivated beating of a Bochur on Carroll Street, as was first reported here on CrownHeights.info. They posted a police car on the block, but a little over an hour after Shabbos was out, the car nor any kind of patrol was visible throughout the neighborhood.

The first major media outlet to report the bias crime was the Sunday edition of the New York Daily News, following which a thunderstorm of media began swarming Crown Heights including TV outlets NBC and CBS who were in Crown Heights and interviewed residents and members of Shomrim.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Over 1200 people from all spectrums of the Crown Heights and Greater New York Jewish communities attended a Melaveh Malkah organized by RCCS at the RAZAG ballroom on Mostei Shabbos Shirah. Every seat in the ballroom was taken and hundreds stood on the sides to participate in the uplifting program.

Samuel Balkany was on his way to a friend's house in Crown Heights about 10:30p.m. Friday when five black teenagers threw him against the fence of a house, yelled anti-Semitic epithets and beat him, police and Samuel said.

“They pushed me so I was leaning on the gate, and five guys were knocking me out for five minutes,” Samuel, who is Lubavitch Hasidic, said last night. He said the teens yelled, “F------ Jew. Cold Matzah Ovens Cause Alarm

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — After turning on the ovens this Motzoai Shabbos in the Matzah Bakery on Albany Avenue the block filled with thick smoke and the strong stench of fire.

FDNY was called and responded but after meeting the owner it quickly became clear that the smoke was due to the oven being cold and there was no need for any activity on the firefighter’s behalf.

Bochur Viciously Beaten Friday Night in Racially Motivated Attack

In response to the assault, Police posted a car in front of the location.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Bochur was viciously beaten in a racially motivated attack Friday night. The incident took place at around 10:00pm when the Bochur was on his way to a friend’s house, and was accosted by 5 Black teens on Carroll Street between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenues.

The group of Blacks pounced on the Bochur, throwing him over and began viciously beating him while cursing at him “you F****** Jew”, “little Jew” and “this is our neighborhood, we will kill you” among other racially motivated slurs and curses. After beating the Bochur for nearly 5 minutes, during which he tried calling for help, they left the scene.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Earlier this year, Rabbi Benny Zippel strolled into a Provo store on a rescue mission.

He’d gotten word about a Torah scroll, Judaism’s holiest object, that was in the hands of an antiques dealer. He needed to check it out himself.
