Subpoena Requested in Zoning Case – Freehold Township Officials Undecided

Kim Predham – App.com

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — In an unusual move, the attorney for a rabbi accused of running a house of worship out of his home wants the Zoning Board of Adjustment to subpoena township officials, including former Mayor Dorothy Avallone, to testify.

And in an effort to clear up confusion, zoning board members Thursday asked that the rabbi himself testify on whether he is holding religious services in his home.

Bloom’s Kosher Deli: Open On Shabbos . . . With Chabad

Dvora Lakein – Lubavitch.com

EDGWARE, UK — Bloom’s famous kosher eatery is to London’s Jews what the 2nd Avenue Deli was to New York Jews. At its different locations, the popular eatery served up some of its favorites like “plump, firm, matzo balls” and salt beef to famous diners, including Charlie Chaplin (a close friend of the owner) and Frank Sinatra (who reportedly ordered takeout to his suite at the Savoy, and never returned the silver dishes).

The Weekly Sedra – Vayakhel – The Book Or The Cover?

Rabbi Yoseph Kahanov Shliach to Jacksonville, FL

Legend has it that the late Albert Einstein, having just completed a paper and in need of a clasp, spent a considerable amount of time trying to straighten-out a clip that was twisted and unusable. While struggling with the dysfunctional object, his assistant discovered a new box of perfect clips. Einstein took one of the new paper clips reshaped it and used it as an instrument to repair the old bent one.

In response to his assistant’s bewilderment, the renowned physicist declared: “I had just established a new objective; once set upon a goal I’m not easily deflected.”

The Weekly Sedra – Parshas Vayakhel

The Rebbe says:

1. In this week’s Torah portion the Torah recounts how every single Jew- men, women, and children- donated all kinds of materials for the construction of the Mishkan (the Tabernacle) to their hearts content.

2. The Rebbe now contrasts the donations given in this week’s Torah portion with the Ma’cha’tzis Ha’sheh’kel (half of a coin called a “Shekel”) that the Jewish people gave to the Mishkan earlier in last week’s Torah portion:

Sochi Jewish Community Prepares for 2014 Olympics with Plans for a New Synagogue

FJC.ru

SOCHI, Russia — This week, the southern Russian resort city of Sochi hosted a meeting between the region’s Chief Rabbi and Chabad Lubavitch emissary Arie Edelkopf and Semyon Veinshtok, the Head of the State Corporation for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

To set the context of the Jewish community’s role in this major event, Chief Rabbi Edelkopf provided the top official with some background on Jewish life in the region. Today, the local Jewish community is comprised of an estimated 3,000 Jews. While not very large, the local Synagogue hosts prayers and various adult learning opportunities. But the community also provides outreach to Jewish visitors to this Black Sea destination, inviting them to communal gatherings and holidays and making kosher food available to them.
