1. With this week’s Torah portion we will read and study a new Book in the Chumash (the five books of Moses). So far this year we have experienced the Book of Bereishis (Genesis), the Book of Shemos (Exodus), the Book of Vayikra (Leviticus) and the Book of Bamidbar (Numbers). This Shabbos we begin the Fifth Book- the Book of Devarim (Deuteronomy).
2. It has become a custom to call this week’s Shabbos (Sabbath) “Shabbos Chazon – The Shabbos of the (prophetic) vision”. This is simply because the Haftorah this week begins with the words, “This is the (prophetic) vision of Yeshayahu son of Amotz…”.
3. The Rebbe brings an additional reason as to why this week’s Shabbos is called “Shabbos Chazon – The Shabbos of the (prophetic) vision”:

In the course of each week I meet people to discuss different issues.
Just last week, a young man sat at the other side of my desk and asked me for advice. He is involved in activities that are not good for his emotional, physical and spiritual health and he was looking for a way out.
In the course of our discussion, we went through each negative behavior and how it began; it all boiled down to that the boy got involved in this detrimental conduct because of a lack of self esteem.

HERNOVTSY, Ukraine [FJC] — Now that the Jewish community of Chernovtsy has succeeded in gaining title to the historical Synagogue on Sadovskiy Street, works aimed at its restoration are in full swing. With respect to the building’s transfer to the local community, fortunately the Chernovtsy City Administration was very cooperative at a time when it really counted.

A Police Officer with Nothing Better to do at 2:50am?
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Take a look at the license plate in the picture above, do you see anything wrong with it? Police Officer Vargas did. The officer was posted on Kingston Avenue and Carroll Street during the midnight shift when he issued a ticket to a parked car for an “improperly displayed license plate” at 2:50am.
Crown Heights has lately seen a massive influx of police officers in the neighborhood who are seen ‘walking the beat’ and keeping us safe. One of the side effects of this is the increased ticketing of vehicles, something which we have come to accept as a price for our protection.

“All of us at Chabad are saddened by the passing of Bruce Adler last week,” said Rabbi Anchelle Perl.
“Even as he is being remembered as the scion of the Yiddish theatre family who went on to have much success on the Broadway stage, he will always have a special place in our hearts,” added Rabbi Perl “for his extraordinary efforts to help further Jewish education and Yiddishkeit with his annual appearances on the Chabad Telethon's both in New York and California.”
