Man’s Body Found After 1-week Search

Search teams found the body of Anatoly (Naftoli) Smolyansky in Lake Piru on Monday, a week after he jumped into the water after his daughter and drowned.

Smolyansky, 39, of Los Angeles, and his family were in a boat on Lake Piru on the evening of Aug. 25 when his 5-year-old daughter fell overboard. Witnesses said he jumped in to rescue her and sank into the water as he was pushing her back toward the boat. He was presumed dead shortly afterward.

WOODBOURNE, NY — Bakery workers scraped mounds of poppy seeds into trash bins.

Fathers strapped luggage and toys to the roofs of minivans. Mothers were too busy hosing off chairs and folding the last of the laundry to talk about the exodus.

This scene has repeated for decades now. The day before Labor Day, Sullivan County’s Hasidic Jewish communities pack up and vanish. Shops close, bungalows empty, summer ends. Many return to the bustle of Brooklyn.

“It’s unbelievable,” bakery owner Levi Gombo said. “In three hours, everybody’s gone.”

Student Organizations Galore on First Day of Classes

Take a walk on the drag and it’s fairly obvious that with the throng of students that school is back in session at the University of Texas.

Tables lined the sidewalks Wednesday, featuring different clubs and organizations all encouraging the students to get involved.

It all might be a little intimidating for incoming freshman but that’s not the intention.

Rabbi Zev Johnson with the Chabad Jewish student organization said the plethora of organizations offer students the opportunity for self-expression.

Shiduch Fears Hinder Search for Sicko Predator

Detectives fear a serial predator is stalking Borough Park, and are frustrated by the lack of cooperation they’re getting from one victim’s family, The Post has learned.

The Hasidic family of a 14-year-old girl assaulted on Aug. 3 is not helping detectives hunting her attacker, according to a police source familiar with the investigation.

“The detectives have hit a stone wall right now,” the source said. “Beyond a basic interview, they are not getting any cooperation.”

Parking Regulations for Sunday and Monday

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Due to Labor Day and the West Indian Day Parade there are a slew of driving and parking regulation changes in Crown Heights.

On Sunday starting at 4:00pm there will be no parking on Eastern Parkway and on all avenues from President Street to S. Johns Place, places where you cant park are marked in red in the <%popup(2/20070901-no-parking-800.jpg|800|405|MAP ABOVE)%>. Tow trucks will be going around starting at 4:00pm towing and relocating vehicles. You will be allowed to park there once again on Tuesday at 6:00am.

The best time to leave Crown Heights on Monday morning would be before 9:00am and the best return time would be after 9:00pm.
