Jews to City: Remove Bike Lane!

BROOKLYN, NY — Opposition to newly painted bike lanes on Kent Avenue is so strong in Williamsburg’s Hasidic community that one Orthodox leader vows that the faithful will block traffic if the city does not remove the cycling routes.

In South Williamsburg’s Satmar section, the wheels were already spinning against the bike lanes — which eliminated curbside parking and standing when they were painted last month — and now de facto Satmar spokesman Isaac Abraham kicked the conflict into a higher gear when he said this week that private buses would obstruct Kent Avenue to pressure the city to remove the lanes and reinstate alternate-side parking.

Manchester Lubavitch Youth Minyan Enjoy a Shabbaton!

MANCHESTER, England [CHI] — Rabbi Dovid Tzvi Weinman, Rabbi of the Manchester Lubavitch Youth Minyan, together with his wife Chaya, accompanied by four students of Yeshivas Lubavitch Manchester took a group of 35 boys aged between 13 and 16 to the Chabad Retreat Centre in Llandudno for a fun filled Shabbaton.

After Months without Incident, Two Cars Collide on Empire and Troy

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The largest Chanukah Dreidel in the world stands proudly in front of the Chabad Jewish Center in Basking Ridge, generating stares and proud smiles from passers-by.

The Dreidel has become a local landmark during the holiday season, rising over 18 feet above the busy intersection of Valley Road and King Gorge Road.

City to Get 1,067 Fewer Cops But 200 New Traffic Agents

NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD says it can’t afford to hire 1,067 extra cops but it does plan to hire 200 traffic agents to write $61 million worth of tickets.

Traffic agents are empowered under a new law to write summonses for drivers caught “blocking the box” at intersections.

POSTVILLE, IA — The new de facto leader of Agriprocessors Inc. said Monday that he hopes to restart production at the Postville meatpacking plant as soon as possible.

Joseph Sarachek, a New York bankruptcy lawyer, was appointed by a federal judge last week to serve as the company’s trustee. The appointment gives him effective control over the business.

Rabbi Shlomo Cunin, head Shliach to California, spoke about Released Time in California as it was in the “early years,” followed by Rabbi Chaim Bryski, Shliach to Thousand Oaks, California, who explained how to make the learning classes more interactive and interesting.
