BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — As part of its Living Archive Preservation Project, JEM has released a DVD with over 50 hours newly restored audio of Farbrengens of the Rebbe. The selected Farbrengens from the three months of Menachem Av, Elul and Tishrei of the years 5711-5728 (1951-1968) have been extracted from the original recordings made by Rabbi Sholom Yisroel Hodakov during the events, and have been meticulously preserved by experts in reel-to-reel audio work.

For the past three weeks, Leibel Kahanov and Ephraim Zimmerman have traveled throughout Montana, encouraging other Jews in their faith.

The two young men are not hard to spot. They wear identical black pants and white dress shirts, yarmulkes - or skullcaps - on their heads and long, curly, dark-brown beards.

Kahanov, 22, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Zimmerman, 23, of Chicago, are members of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, one branch of Orthodox Judaism, which has its headquarters in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Both are rabbis who study at Central Chabad Yeshivah in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“Chabad” is a Hebrew acronym for the expression “wisdom, intelligence and knowledge” - words that describe the theology of the movement. Lubavitch is a town in White Russia, now Belarus, where the movement was based for more than a century.

For the past three weeks, Leibel Kahanov and Ephraim Zimmerman have traveled throughout Montana, encouraging other Jews in their faith.

So far this year we have experienced the Book of Bereishis (Genesis), the Book of Shemos (Exodus), the Book of Vayikra (Leviticus) and the Book of Bamidbar (Numbers). This Shabbos we begin the Fifth Book- the Book of Devarim (Deuteronomy).

2. As we have previously discussed, the portion of Devarim begins a new era in the life of the Jewish people. They are now beginning a life of exile where they would not see miracles every day, nor would their necessities be taken care of for them by G-d.

Moreover, as we have also previously discussed, Rebbe Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev explains that on this Shabbos of Parshas Devarim, which is called, “Shabbos Chazon – The Shabbos of the (prophetic) vision”, a vision of the third and final Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple) is shown to the Soul of every single Jew.

The Friendship Circle, which pairs teenage
volunteers with children with special needs,
brought 35 young adults from the United
States to Israel for the second time in as
many years.
Almost three dozen U.S. young adults with special needs wrapped up a unique tour of the Holy Land, the second time in as many years the Friendship Circle – a Chabad-Lubavitch network of programs that pairs teenage volunteers with children with special needs – has worked to make the free tours provided by Taglit-Birthright Israel available to its constituents.

Founded in Michigan more than 15 years ago, the Friendship Circle has garnered international attention for its home visit programs, workshops, and other initiatives that help individuals with special needs maximize their potential. Providing an outlet for Jewish learning and expression is a strong part of the Friendship Circle, explained Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum, director of the Friendship Circle of MetroWest, N.J., so it was only natural that as the Birthright family of tours continued to grow, staff would look for ways to include the special-needs population.

“The mission of the Friendship Circle has always been to enable those with special needs to fully participate in the Jewish community and enjoy the same experiences that are available to the mainstream population,” said Grossbaum. “Why should the Israel experience be any different?”

Due to the economic crisis, and with donations declining on a regular basis, I began looking into credit repair and loan modifications, first as means of helping many of our donors who were facing difficult times, and more lately, as a means to supplement my personal income, while I continue to manage directing Global Jewish on a greatly reduced salary.

Day by day, I am shocked to discover local families who outwardly seem to be faring well, to actually be on the verge of home foreclosures, tanking credit, over burdened with debt, etc.
