CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Lubavitcher man was attacked Friday night on his way home from Shul by a group of four Black teens, in an apparent hate crime.
The incident happened at around 9:30pm on President Street between Kingston and Albany Avenues, where the 28-year-old was grabbed by one of the group and put into a headlock or chokehold and the other three began punching him, he was then thrown to the ground and the four began kicking him. A Jewish woman who witnessed the attack began screaming and chased the group off.

This past Motzaei Shabbos, Anash and Bochurim of the Melbourne Jewish Community gathered for a Melave Malka at the Rabbinical College of Australia and New Zealand (Yeshivah Gedolah), to celebrate the completion of Maseches Kesubos. The event was arranged in honor of Avrohom Kaminetsky and Shimon Szmerling, who had recited the Shakle V’taria of the entire Masechta Ba’al Peh (as opposed to being spot-checked), in increments of approximately five Blatt.
ENGLEWOOD, NJ [CHI] — It might seem to the onlooker that Jon Corzine, Governor of New Jersey, is looking to renew his faith in local politicians—and in rabbis.
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Vacation Crown Heights offered continues programming throughout this summer. Hundreds of women took advantage of this wonderful opportunity, as the program attracted more and more interest. Vacation Ch got lots of requests to expand their program and include classes for men. Upon those requests inserted into the program are classes available for men. The first class on the program, open to both men and women was a Highlight of this week. The Chinuch workshop gave lots of participants the opportunity to hear Rabbi Yossi Simpson, Principal of Lubavitch Yeshivah. Rabbi Simpson addressed the challenges of Chinuch, “Keeping the Outside Influences Out” Given on Thursday August 6, 2009. Many more Chinuch and Sholom Bais workshops welcome men to join the program.
When Robert A. Rockaway, a recognized authority on Jewish-American history, decided to chronicle the story of the Jewish mob, he sought out Jewish old-timers in order to gather information on this less than reputable element.
Rockaway even interviewed his own mother, a native of Detroit, Michigan, who personally knew some friends and family members of the nefarious subjects of his research.
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A teenage punk attempted to mug a Jewish woman of her purse Wednesday afternoon, but was unsuccessful thanks to an unrelenting victim. The incident took place on Albany Avenue and President Street, where a Black teen approached the woman and grabbed the strap of her purse and tried to snatch it.
Unwilling to give in, the woman held on and called for help. A number of Yidden came to her aid and the would-be purse snatcher fled. An attempt to chase the punk failed after they lost him in a crowd at Troy Avenue and Union Street.

Over the past week a team of talented painters have been working round the clock; decorating the walls and meticulously painting every detail to make it look its finest.

The Rebbe says:
1. The first verses of this week’s Torah portion simply reads, “See! I am giving to you today a blessing and a curse… The blessing is being given on the basis that you will listen to the commandments of G-d, your G-d…And the curse will come if you do not listen to the commandments of G-d, your G-d…”.
The Targum Onkelos translates the Hebrew word “Kllalah” in these first few verses and in the future verses as “curse”. The Targum Yonasan however translates the Hebrew word “Kllalah” in these first few verse as “its substitute”, so that the verse reads, “See! I am giving to you today a blessing and its substitute”; whereas in the future verses in this Torah portion the Targum Yonasan changes his interpretation and interprets the Hebrew word “Kllalah” as “curse” just like the Targum Onkelos always does.
2. The Rebbe asks three questions on this:
NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — Tuesday Night, August 11th, A T.I.M.E. held a dinner and concert on the Hudson River. The boat set sail from Pier 59, Chesea Piers, in New York City. The evening was a star studded sold out event, featuring Avraham Fried, Chazan Yiztchok Meir Helfgot, Shloime Gertner and R Pinky Weber. The nights entertainment was hosted by R’ Michoel Schnitzler, a well known Badchen and respected singer in his own right.
