A confrontation between a black woman and a Lubavitcher girl on a subway ended with the theft of a cell phone, and a later attempt to retrieve it yielded a ransom request by the woman from the earlier confrontation. The victim thought of calling Shomrim, but didn’t at first thinking that it wouldn’t be right to trouble them with such a trivial matter, but later called and together they retrieved the phone. The following letter was sent to us by the victim:
To the Shomrim of Crown Heights:
I am writing this letter to express my thanks for what Shomrim did for me this week.
My phone was stolen, and I soon had given up hope on ever retrieving it. That was only until I decided to call Shomrim of course.

MONTREAL, Canada — Anyone entering Arieh Perecowicz's taxi in Montreal quickly knows what's close to the man's heart. At various places around the dashboard, he's posted photos of his family, religious artifacts, a couple of flags and a Remembrance Day poppy.
The items have never sparked a customer complaint or interfered with his work, the 65-year-old cabbie says. But it did provoke a series of tickets from Montreal's taxi agency, which have resulted in a court battle that could test the line between personal and public space.

LONDON, England- Picking his way through the smoke-filled London Underground and beyond the mangled subway car, Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin was unsure of what had just happened. Only later, when the news bulletins revealed that the explosion had been caused by a suicide bomber, did he begin to understand.
