Clarke, Dems, Vote against Pro-Israel Resolution

Yesterday, 33 Democrats voted “no” and 20 Democrats voted “present” on House Resolution 867, which condemned the “Goldstone report” on Israel’s conduct in Gaza last winter. The final roll call vote on the House floor was 344 for, 36 against, and 22 present.

H. Res. 867, introduced by Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, calls on the Obama administration to oppose efforts by the Arab states in the UN General Assembly and other international forums to use the Goldstone report as a propaganda tool and a diplomatic weapon to attack Israel. In all, 21 percent of the Democratic caucus did not support this pro-Israel measure, including Crown Heightses representative Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke.

Wilkes-Barre Youth Development Program Celebrates 10

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — This past Sunday evening, November 1st, Bais Menachem – Youth Development Program of Wilkes-Barre, PA celebrated its 10 year anniversary with a gala dinner at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The dinner was organized by a group of Bais Menachem alumni to mark this momentous occasion.

Bais Menachem is a yeshiva for young men who have struggled in the mainstream yeshiva system for a variety of reasons. Founded in 1999 with just 7 students, the yeshiva has served hundreds of young men during the past decade.

Special Navy forces discovered weapons and ammunition on a cargo ship overnight Tuesday, after boarding the Francop some 100 nautical miles west of Israel flying an Antiguan flag.

Defense officials said the 140-meter long Francop, captured near Cyprus, was carrying arms sent by Iran and destined for Syria and Hizbullah.

Bloomberg Narrowly Wins Third Term as NYC Mayor

NEW YORK, NY [AP] — Billionaire Michael Bloomberg won a third term as New York mayor Tuesday in a closer-than-expected race against a Democratic challenger who stoked voter resentment over the way Bloomberg changed term-limits law so he could stay in office.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Bloomberg, the richest man in New York and founder of the financial information company Bloomberg LP, defeated William Thompson Jr. 51 percent to 46 percent.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A fire broke out this afternoon in a basement of two adjoining stores on Utica Avenue and President Street. The fire started in the storage area and was not deemed suspicious; firefighters had the blaze out in less than 15 minutes.
