At 1:30 AM on Tuesday Jan 19, 2010 – Gimmel Shvat in the Hebrew calendar, our father, Rabbi Yosef Tevel passed away. He was 55 years old and it was his birthday. His sudden death, caused by a bursted blood vessel in his brain has left us in complete shock.

JEM Asks: Help us Find Israeli Security Interviewees

NYPD Cracking Down on Drivers on Cell Phones

NEW YORK — The NYPD has announced its first 2010 citywide crackdown on drivers using hand-held devices.

The initiative is aimed at promoting safe driving. In a statement, the NYPD said “texting or talking on a cell phone is dangerous and endangers both drivers and pedestrians.”

Chabad Gives Cardozo Law Students an Edge in the Job Hunt

With law firm layoffs and cutbacks in new attorney hires worrying the students at Cardozo Law School in New York, the campus Chabad center has begun offering networking events to connect students with successful attorneys.

At Chabad’s recent Attorneys and Law Students Networking Event, 75 students got to know powerbrokers like real-estate mogul and attorney Leon Charney, Jones Day partner Andy Green, and president the New York Legal Assistance Group Yisroel Schulman.

GEECE — Israel expressed its concern to Greece on Tuesday over the arson of the old synagogue in the Crete town of Hania, and asked for help preventing repeat attacks. In addition, Israel issued a request with the Greek government for aid in repairing the site.

British Royal Tours Damaged Mumbai Chabad House

Prince Michael of Kent, a cousin of British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, toured the heavily damaged site of Chabad-Lubavitch of Mumbai, India, in a gesture of solidarity and in support of the rebuilding effort following the Nov. 26, 2008 terrorist attack there and at tourist centers throughout the city. At the end of his Wednesday afternoon visit, he presented Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz, director of the Chabad Mumbai Relief Fund, with a formal pledge of $100,000 on behalf of the DVK Foundation, a United Kingdom charity he serves as patron.
