Man Pleads Guilty to Hate Crime, Faces 18 Years in Jail

BROOKLYN [CHI] — Thursday, a man pled guilty to charges he spray painted swastikas and spread fliers stating “Kill Jews” around Brooklyn Heights, and for possessing a cache of weapons in his apartment. He is facing 18 years in prison.

The man, Ivaylo Ivanov is a 39 year old dog walker. He pled guilty for possessing the cache of weapons after he shot himself in the hand. The cache consisted of homemade explosives, a semiautomatic handgun and ammunition.

Video – New York Braces For Winter Snow Storm

NEW YORK [CBS] — The east coast is gearing up for the worst as a parts of our area prepare for the coming winter blast. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch from 6 p.m. Friday through Saturday afternoon for areas in New York, with parts of the Garden State under a Blizzard Warning until 7 p.m. tomorrow.

“It’s a big storm. It’s a quick storm. We’re in and out on Saturday,” said CBS 2HD’s meteorologist John Elliott.

BROOKLYN [WABC] — A second-alarm fire ripped through a home in the Midwood section of Brooklyn Thursday morning, and some students at a nearby school are being hailed as heroes.

The fire broke out on East 35th Street just after 10:30 a.m., and heavy smoke spewed through the area.

CROWN HEIGHTS — At the border of Crown Heights and Brownsville, in an impoverished corner of Brooklyn, stands the hulking, tan brick building that houses P.S. 191, the Paul Robeson School.

The school serves a student population that is remarkable in its disadvantage: 99% of its roughly 300 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade qualify for free or reduced-price lunches; some live at the homeless shelter next door.
