The 17th of Tammuz is a fast day, which is devoted to mourning the breaching of Jerusalem’s walls and the other tragic events that occurred on this day, and repenting and rectifying their causes. We refrain from all food and drink from “daybreak” (about an hour before sunrise, depending on location) until nightfall. Special prayers and Torah readings are added to the day’s services.

Released Time Program Ends Another Successful Year
During this past end-of-school-year week, the Jewish Released Time program hosted dozens end of year celebrations and graduations for the hundreds of children who attend the weekly Jewish Hour. Throughout the city in various shuls and Jewish centers many parents, relatives, children and teachers gathered to celebrate these momentous occasions.
