NEW YORK [AP] — During a heat wave this past week that topped 100 degrees, city firefighters battled more fires than in any other week in the past 30 years, according to the Uniformed Firefighters Association of New York.

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Lazar OBM of Boro Park on Friday. He learned Tomchei Temimim in New York, and was sent by the Friediker Rebbe to work in the educational institutes he established in Buffalo, Rochester, New Haven, and Worcester.
He is survived by his brother, Rabbi Moshe Lazar.

It’s a peaceful night in the Galperin household in Kiryat Malachi. Reb Shmuel, the devoted father, is working as a night watchman, while Devora lovingly puts the children to bed, and then turns to her pile of mending. All is silent, as the children are asleep.
