Suburban Philadelphia Synagogue and Mosque Get Along as Good Neighbors

The cars slowly turn onto the long driveway, their wheels occasionally crunching the adjacent ground frozen from the night before and speckled with the merest dusting of snow. Rabbi Yossi Kaplan and Mohammad Aziz walk side by side in the direction of the oncoming line of traffic. Several young, professional-looking Muslim men pass them in the opposite direction, pausing to shake the rabbi’s hand and wish him a hearty “Shabbat Shalom.”

We are living in modern times—not ancient times. This is true. In ancient times we had camels and tents, in modern times we have cars and houses. Out with the old, and in with the new. So if we drive the cars, live in the houses, carry the cell phones, and throw the clothes in the washing machine, should there be any thought about dating by religious principles (otherwise viewed as out dated, old fashioned, and ancient) ? That wouldn’t seem to make sense. We do after all live in modern times….or don’t we?

If we are to date differently because of modern times then shouldn’t we have developed entirely different emotions and feelings than our past ancestors? Shouldn’t our body and soul respond differently to relationships if we are behaving differently because we are modern? Shouldn’t we experience less pain and disappointments? After all, if we are going to be different in the way we date and marry, and not practice religious or traditional practices then shouldn’t we be doing this because we are benefiting in our relationships and as individuals?

Vulture in Saudi Custody Suspected as Mossad Agent

Saudi Arabian security forces have captured a vulture that was carrying a global positioning satellite (GPS) transmitter and a ring etched with the words “Tel Aviv University.” They suspect the bird of spying for Israel, Maariv-NRG reported Tuesday. The GPS and ring were connected to the bird as part of an long-term project by Israeli scientists that follows vultures’ location and altitude for research purposes.

Valsyl Lazoryshyn is accused of stealing a Brooklyn man’s Maxima after seeing it advertised on Craiglist.

His car was gone in less than 60 seconds. In fact, a young Brooklyn man’s 2005 Nissan Maxima disappeared instantly after he stepped out of the driver’s seat to let a prospective “buyer” take it for a spin.
