Governor Cuomo Welcomes Montreal-NY Travelers

ALBANY, NY [CHI] — Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a proclamation citing Albany’s Maimonides School for serving Northway travelers year round with a minyan, the “Passover Stopover” and the upcoming “87 Northway Traveler’s Torah” for the Albany, Saratoga, Lake George and Adirondack regions.

Guma Hosts Florida Shluchim

In honor of Yud Aleph Nissan, the Rebbe’s birthday, philanthropist Guma Aguiar held a cocktail reception in his Ft. Lauderdale home for his home-state’s Shluchim. Mr. Aguiar announced his project of the Chabad Visitor Center to be constructed at the Kotel, and showed videos about the project in his home.

KJ Got the Numbers, Not the Image of the Poorest

Kiryas Joel, N.Y., a predominantly Ultra-Orthodox Jewish village, is atop a national poverty list. The median age is under 12.

The poorest place in the United States is not a dusty Texas border town, a hollow in Appalachia, a remote Indian reservation or a blighted urban neighborhood. It has no slums or homeless people. No one who lives there is shabbily dressed or has to go hungry. Crime is virtually nonexistent.

As one of the most widely celebrated Jewish holidays, the eight holy days of Passover are a time when all Jews, regardless of affiliation, religious background or level of observance, can commemorate the ancient Israelites, who were freed from slavery in Egypt after 400 years, while reflecting on themes of freedom, redemption and creation, singing songs, reciting prayers and eating symbolic foods.
