A Tribute: Michel Schwartz, 86

Famed artist Michel Schwartz poses in front of one of his signature works featuring a Hebrew script he developed.

Master of Hebrew calligraphy Michel Schwartz, who was cherished for his big heart as much as for his creative art, passed away at the age of 86. His work adorned the walls and tables of Israeli presidents and prime ministers, but for Schwartz, whose biggest projects included illustrating promotional and educational materials on behalf of the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch, the greatest honor was to ignite another Jew’s interest in Judaism.

Bermuda’s Jews Greet Visiting Rabbis

Rabbi Yossi Goldberg (left) and Rabbi Bentzy Shemtov are visiting Bermuda from the Chabad Rabbinical Visitation Programme. The centre sends out representatives to parts of the world with small Jewish communities, to rally members of the faith.

Two recently-ordained rabbis have come to the Island on a mission to connect with Bermuda’s Jewish community, and spread awareness of their people and their faith.

This past week has been a very somber and moving one, with the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of 9/11. This unique moment has left many of us asking ourselves, where are we as a nation ten years later? Are we more secure, resilient and safe since?

Boruch Dayan Hoemes – Dr. Moshe Verter OBM

With great sadness and deep pain we inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Moshe (Michael) Verter OBM of Highland Park, NJ.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Mini Verter and daughters; Deena Segal, Ilana (Gootblatt) Verter, and Nehama Verter.

Moshe was a strong supporter of the local Chabad community and has done much volunteer work, helping to establish a strong Jewish presence at Rutgers University.
