Late in the evening of July 11, Yaakov German, a 47-year-old Bobover Hasid, received a call from his brother, Benny. “Yanky,” Benny said, “a boy is lost in the community. You’ve got to come help.” German, who is short and thickly built, sprang from his chair and headed out into the heat.
Fourteen years ago, Chanukah fell out on x-mas. That prompted Rabbi Dov Greenberg, currently Shliach of Chabad at Stamford, to relate a true story of inspiration on the subject. He told the story at High Holiday services at Chabad of the Conejo, where he was then employed.

However, only Jacob was given a second name by God himself, which was the name “Israel.” And the question arises, what was Jacob’s uniqueness among our forefathers that earned him this name? And what was it about his life and deeds that merited him to have this new name become the future appellation of the entire Israelite people?

Chabad of North Orlando, led by Rabbi Yanky and Chanshy Majesky, is currently holding a mezuzah campaign to help local families display their Jewish heritage with pride. Fifty Jewish households in Lake Mary, Longwood and Sanford can have a mezuzah installed on their home for free. The mezuzahs will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The current campaign is being sponsored by Chaim and Lauren Thomas of Longwood.
