Joy over Completion of 5th Torah for Jewish Children
Hundreds of Rabbanim, Shluchim, Anash and Bochurim, and thousands of children, celebrated the completion of the fifth Sefer Torah for Jewish Children at the Kosel today. The Sefer Torah’s letters were purchased by Jewish children throughout the world, following the directives of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of blessed memory.

Over 1,000 men turned out for a barbecue supporting the vital work of the Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society, which provides assistance in the form of medical insurance and doctor referrals for those diagnosed with yenem machlah. The event took place in Flatbush on the closed-off E. 22nd Street and Avenue I, in front of the home of Pinny and Yaffa Rand, who hosted the event.
Chabad of Kiryat Arba-Hebron Dedicates New Center
About one thousand visitors and members of the Kiryat Arba community in Israel joined the dedication of the new Beis Chaya Mushka House, Tuesday, August 7. Perched in the Judean Hills overlooking the Cave of the Patriarchs, it will be the center of activities hosted by Rabbi Rafael and Mushka Brod, new emissaries to the Kiryat Arba-Hebron area. The Brods will be the fourth couple to serve the area, and will focus on youth activities as well as Torah classes.

Two months ago, Miriam Leichtling’s parents lost their jobs within a week of each other. For several months, Leichtling, a New York designer who has led several organized trips to Israel, had been agonizing over how to scrape together enough money to send her parents, ages 66 and 71, to Israel. But the cost of airfare for three – normally starting at about $1,000 per ticket, with a layover — was prohibitive.

Remembering Mr. Shmuel (Sami) Rohr, 86
Mr. Shmuel (Sami) Rohr, renowned philanthropist and patriarch of the Rohr family, passed away Sunday, August 5. He was was 86. Mr. Rohr, through the Rohr Family Foundation, spearheaded a renaissance of Jewish life and literacy in Jewish communities and on university campuses around the world. Today the Rohr family name is synonymous with Jewish education and outreach.

The bochurim of the Yeshiva Summer Program in Morristown, NJ traveled to the Rebbe’s resting place in Queens, in honor of the Yahrtzeit of the Rebbe’s father. Returning to Brooklyn, they took a tour of the Aguch library in 770, hearing all about the life of Reb Levik, and seeing his Torah writings, which were smuggled out of the Soviet Union by his wife, Rebbetzin Chana.

In honor of Chof Av, Yahrtzeit of the Rebbe’s father Reb Levik, the Rebbe’s house at 1304 President St. will be open for Ma’ariv, tonight, Tuesday, at 9:00pm.

New Montreal Chabad Center Nears Completion
The new Chabad center of Cote St. Luc in Montreal is near completion. The ceramic tiles from China for the lower level are due any day now, and a permanent Aron Kodesh for the main sanctuary upstairs will be ready soon, by Rosh Hashanah, IY”H; but 11 Torahs are in place, and for all intents and purposes, the tiles and the Aron amount to finishing touches.

Luckily, the inhabitants decided not to open the door; there is no telling what he intended to do if the door had been opened.

The Lubavitcher Who Brought the Siyum to Thousands
While organizers of the Siyum HaShas declined to create a live feed from MetLife Stadium for the thousands of people who were unable to attend the event, one young man took matters, literally, into his own hands and one small act of chesed, intended to benefit a few friends, turned into a five hour long live stream that was ultimately seen by tens of thousands of viewers.
