Guide: Times Halachos and Customs for Yomim Noraim

Ahead of the upcoming Yomim Noroim and Aseres Yemei Teshuva the Beis Din of Crown Heights released a twelve page booklet – in both English and Hebrew – which holds the answer to many questions and instruction as to many customs and Halachos related to the upcoming holidays.

The guide was compiled by the office of Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba for the benefit of the community.

Dear Mayor Bloomberg,

I am a lifetime resident of this great city of New York. I have grown up with all the mayors in NY starting with Lindsay, going on to Beame, Koch, Dinkins, Giuliani, and now you. I want to explain something to you. I know that politicians have an unusually strong sense of determination, which gives them the drive to forge ahead of typical people and place themselves into positions of power. I get it. I really do.

Bloomberg’s Ban on Large Sodas Becomes Law

The city Board of Health today has approved Mayor Michael Bloomberg‘s plan to ban large sugary drinks. The panel voted 8-0 with one abstention this morning in favor of the plan to prohibit restaurants, movie theaters and other establishments from selling sugar-filled drinks larger than 16 ounces. All members of the board were appointed by the mayor.

Chabad at University of Kansas Launches Radio Show

The Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Lawrence, KS has launched a live Sunday Jewish Radio show, “The Schmooze” on KLWN News Talk 1320 AM. The first show aired Sunday, Aug. 26. “This is the first time in Lawrence history that a Jewish radio show is on the air,” said Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel, director of Chabad at KU.
