Jewish Singles Spend Shabbos in the Amazon

The state of Amazon in Brazil increased its Jewish population by a fifth for three days this past Shabbos, when it hosted a Jewish singles shabbaton in a hotel in the Amazon rainforest. The event was organized by Chabad of Manaus, Amazon’s largest city, and attracted people from across Brazil and other South American countries (Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay), who flew in for the amazing event. It even drew attention from singles in Miami, New York, and Israel. One person even flew in from Trinidad and Tobago.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s food police have struck again! Outlawed are food donations to homeless shelters because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.
