Several weeks ago, I was introduced to Rabbi Ari Weiss, the executive director of Uri L’tzedek, the organization that launched the now-controversial Tav Hayosher “ethical seal” for restaurants. Rabbi Weiss met with me to discuss the background of the Tav Hayosher seal, hear my perspectives on the matter, and possibly form some sort of allegiance with me, given my experience representing food service workers throughout the country.

Upstate Accident Requires Helicopter Evacuation

An accident on the New York State Throughway this morning was captured by one of our readers returning from spending Shabbos in the Catskills. The accident, involving a motorcycle, required emergency ‘Medevac’ helicopter evacuation of the victim and caused a heavy backup of traffic on the northbound lane of the highway in Orange County, NY.

Bustling Erev Shabbos Marred by Accident

Bolivian Court Denies Bail for Jacob Ostreicher

A Bolivian court denied bail Thursday morning to Jacob Ostreicher, a Borough Park, Brooklyn resident who has been incarcerated without formal charges for more than a year. The bail hearing lasted nine grueling hours and was spread over two days while Jacob’s mother, a Holocaust survivor, sat through the entire process in the Bolivian courtroom along with her daughter, Jacob’s sister, both weeping uncontrollably.
