Chabad on Mars Parody: Charming or Offensive?
Haaretz, a popular Israeli news outlet, profiled today a website parodying the presence of a Chabad center on Mars. While the website itself seems to be in good nature and clearly states that it has no affiliation with the Chabad movement, some images on the website would likely be deemed offensive to most Chabad Chasidim, such as one of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s face superimposed on an astronaut suit.

Remains Confirmed to Be Those of Missing Autistic Boy
Authorities have announced that human remains found at a Queens beach last week belong to Avonte Oquendo, a 14-year-old autistic boy who had gone missing nearly four months ago. The search for Avonte came to Crown Heights in early October, shortly after he had gone missing, but was called off after the reported sighting of him turned out to be unsubstantiated.

Wheel Theft of the Day: Union and Albany
After a month-long hiatus, the Crown Heights wheel thieves are back in business. A black Lexus parked on Union St. near Albany Ave. was their latest victim.

Alternate Side Rules Suspended Wednesday
Alternate Side Parking Regulations remain suspended citywide tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22, to facilitate snow removal. Payment at parking meters remains in effect.

Miami Family Adventure Day to Mark 10th Year
This coming Sunday, January 26, 2014, thousands of children and their families will be coming together for the 10th anniversary of Family Adventure Day at Jungle Island in Miami, Florida. The event features a live concert with the world’s most famous children’s singer and entertainer, Uncle Moishy.

Friendship Circle Sensory Room Dedicated
Supporters of the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn’s new Sensory Play Room in Crown Heights met this week to view the completed facility. Children of the some of the donors had a chance to play in the renovated space which is well equipped with brand new, state of the art equipment and toys. The room is designed to stimulate the senses of children, offering them a relaxed and calming environment to play, learn, create and let their imaginations run wild.

Shliach Discovers First Namesake of the Rebbe’s Father
This past Shabbos, Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz, director of Chabad of Southwest Florida, called up an unfamiliar face in Shul for an Aliyah. When he asked the man his Hebrew name, he replied Levi Yitzchok ben Chaim Yosef Dovid.

Canadian Prime Minister Vows to Stand by Israel
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke fiercely in defense of Israel Monday, accusing critics of anti-Semitism, vowing to stand with the country, and drawing heckles from two legislators who eventually stormed out of his speech to the Knesset.

Chabad of Berlin to Display Nuremberg Documents
Documents from the Nuremberg Trials recently found in a flea market in Israel are to go on display at the Chabad Jewish Educational Center in Berlin.
