New Chabad House in Remote Himalayan Mountains
A donkey, motorcycle and helicopter were used to aid the opening Chabad of Manang, a new Chabad House in one of Nepal’s most remote ranges called Annapurna, which contains a very remote trail in the Himalayan Mountains.

Convert to Islam Who Threatened 770 Sentenced
A former Orthodox Jewish man from New Jersey was sentenced to two and a half years in prison Friday for posting violent and threatening posts on his Islamic group’s Web site intended to incite violence against those who he believed were offensive to his Islamic beliefs.

Man Wanted for Attempted Carjacking Apprehended
39-year-old Nissan Ben Shitrit was arrested Erev Shabbos in connection with an attempted carjacking, with children in the car, Erev Pesach. A witness to the carjacking attempt spotted the man and immediately called Shomrim.

Mayor Reaches Out to Crown Heightsers in Yiddish
Yesterday a video was posted online of an NYPD van informing Crown Heights residents of Mayor Bill De Blasio’s new “Vision Zero” plan, which seeks to reduce traffic fatalities. The loudspeaker blares the message first in English, then in Yiddish, in what is no doubt part of the mayor’s efforts to reach wider communities.

Given out by the weekly paper Our Town, with sister publications throughout Manhattan, the awards are presented to community leaders and vital contributors—in other words, people who stand out from the rest.
