During a two-week period several years ago, Matthew Devlin felt hopeless. The 18-year-old came to rest his head one night on a table in a Manhattan Starbucks. Waking up from a deep sleep, he met a Chabad teen who told him that there was a place called “770,” where he could find some help. At the time, Devlin, who has a Jewish mother and a Catholic father, didn’t know that he was a Jew. But figuring he had nothing to lose, he used his last Metrocard swipe to travel south to Brooklyn.

Fight to Stop NYC Bag Tax Goes to Albany

New York State Senator Simcha Felder and Assemblyman Michael Cusick are seeking to overturn the NY City Council’s recent passage of a plastic bag tax. Felder, Cusick and many of their colleagues held a press conference today asking New Yorkers to sign an on-line petition and encourage their elected officials in Albany to support the Felder-Cusick’s bill (S.7336) to protect New Yorkers from taxes or fees on the use of carryout bags.

Over 100 Legal Heavyweights Sign Rubashkin Petition

Over 100 prominent individuals have signed on a letter accusing prosecutors of misconduct in the Rubashkin trial and calling on U.S. Attorney Kevin Techau to correct the “miscarriage of justice” that occurred during the Rubashkin proceedings.
