Jewish Backpackers Find Homes Away From Home During Holiday Season

Bangkok’s Ohr Menachem Chabad House feeds between 300 and 400 Israeli travelers every Friday night, but its attendance swells for Jewish holidays like Rosh Hashanah.

For the droves of adventurous Israelis backpacking their way around the world this High Holiday season – many of them young soldiers straight out of the army – Chabad-Luvabitch centers in such far flung tourist havens as Bangkok and San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, provide not only prayer services and a hot kosher meal, but also a warm, nurturing and spirited home away from home.

Netanyahu Cites Rebbe’s Directive in UN Address

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses the 66th General Assembly of the United Nations.

Taking the podium of the United Nations General Assembly to educate that body about Israel’s impassioned defense of human rights and contributions to the world community, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to guidance he received from the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, and called on that body to turn away from the injustices of the past and finally confront Islamist terror head on.

No Joke: 20 Rabbis Say L’Chaim in Guatemala

Shluchim from Latin and Central America, as well as the Caribbean Islands gathered last week in Guatemala for a regional Kinus, the first such event in the region. The get-together was made possible thanks to the increase of Shluchim to the area, and is a testament to the strengthening of the blossoming communities made possible by Chabad.

‘Justice for Rubashkin’ Petition Reaches Threshold to Get White House Attention

A few weeks ago, the White House announced plans for its “We The People ” project, which would allow ordinary Americans to use an online portal at the White House’s website to submit a petition, gather support for it and, if it managed to clear a participation threshold of 5,000 signatures within 30 days of submission, it would get the attention of “policy experts” who would “issue an official response.”
