60 Chabad Houses sign up for JLI Annual Retreat

With the JLI National Jewish Retreat less than two months away, over 60 Chabad Houses across the US,Canada and abroad have already signed up as delegates. The five day retreat (August 16-21) combines the best of Jewish learning with a luxurious setting at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich, CT. Nearly two decades have passed since the death of seven-year-old Gavin Cato, the son of Guyanese immigrants. In August 1991, Cato was walking down President Street in Crown Heights when 22-year-old Yosef Lifsh, who was driving as a part of the three-car motorcade of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—then-leader of the Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic sect—accidentally hit the car in front of him and then veered off onto the sidewalk, striking little Cato and ending his life.

A group of New York City atheists is demanding that the city remove a street sign honoring seven firefighters killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks because they say the sign violates the separation of church and state.
