Nearly two decades have passed since the death of seven-year-old Gavin Cato, the son of Guyanese immigrants. In August 1991, Cato was walking down President Street in Crown Heights when 22-year-old Yosef Lifsh, who was driving as a part of the three-car motorcade of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—then-leader of the Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic sect—accidentally hit the car in front of him and then veered off onto the sidewalk, striking little Cato and ending his life.
MONTREAL, Canada — More than 500 people attended the Friendship Circle’s 10th anniversary celebration gala, held May 31. The Friendship Circle, which pairs teen volunteers and children with special needs in friendships that enrich young lives, was honoring its more than 400 teen and adult volunteers from 35 schools and the children and families with whom they work.
As OTEG closed its fifth successful year, they had a grand Chinese Auction with almost 40 Prizes, ranging from a grand trip for two anywhere in the USA to a new Borsolino Hat, and from a sandwich maker to Seforim. The prizes were sponsored by local community members and stores.
