Montreal FC Celebrates 10th Anniversary

MONTREAL, Canada — More than 500 people attended the Friendship Circle’s 10th anniversary celebration gala, held May 31. The Friendship Circle, which pairs teen volunteers and children with special needs in friendships that enrich young lives, was honoring its more than 400 teen and adult volunteers from 35 schools and the children and families with whom they work.

The organization was launched a decade ago with six families and 12 volunteers: for many children with special needs, life can be lonely and frustrating at times; the goal of the Friendship Circle is to add fun, love and extracurricular activities to their lives – as well as respite for their parents.

“As we mark our 10th anniversary, I truly can’t believe how far we’ve come and how much we’ve grown. When I see those young smiling faces, day in and day out, I know we are changing lives,” said Friendship Circle president Leslie Greenberg. “And without the dedication from our young volunteers, Friendship Circle would not exist.”

The Friendship Circle provides assistance and support to children with special needs and to their families. Teenage volunteers regularly visit the children with whom they are paired, to play and offer friendship. As well, the Friendship Circle provides a broad range of hands-on programs and activities at its new facility, the Ernest Avrith Friendship Circle Centre on Bourret Ave. Visit www.friendshipcircle.ca for more information.
