Around 200 supporters came together at the federal courthouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to show support for Sholom M. Rubashkin, whose hearing on sentencing is taking place over the next two days. After a day of testimony the group stopped and Davend Mincha in the Courthouse parking lot.

Five Sefer Torahs, Worth $250K Stolen from Boro Park Shul

Five torahs and other religious items worth as much as $250,000 were swiped from a Brooklyn synagogue, community leaders said Wednesday.

The brazen theft was discovered this morning at Congregation Yirah Haschem in Borough Park.

Don Tefillin for Sholom Mordechai

In support of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, group of Shluchim started a campaign to get 10,000 people to don Tefillin by Thursday evening. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign has been successful in getting 2,256 pledges from many Jews.

The campaign’s goal is to get 10,000 people to don Tefillin, before Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin sentencing. Arguments are scheduled to begin today.

A fierce debate over Sholom Rubashkin’s prison sentence begins in federal court today with arguments over the former slaughterhouse manager’s role in a bank fraud scandal, his past, and a chorus of supporters who say the possible life sentence would be too harsh.

Former Postville Mayor Tried to Extort Money From Rubashkin

A former Postville mayor may have accepted cash payments from former Agriprocessors executive Sholom Rubashkin while in office, or tried to extort money from the one-time eastern Iowa slaughterhouse chief, according to documents filed in federal court.

The conflicting accusations are buried in sentencing memos filed by prosecutors and defense lawyers in Rubashkin’s financial fraud case.
