POSTVILLE, IA — A huge immigration raid last week on the country’s largest kosher slaughterhouse (Cick Here for that Story) could have a substantial impact on the thousands of Jews who follow Jewish dietary laws, as well as on non-Jews who purchase kosher meat.

The Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville, Iowa, is one of the largest of a small number of U.S. meat producers that satisfy Jewish dietary restrictions, called kashrut. Federal authorities arrested 400 people in the raid, and the Justice Department said this week that 85 had pleaded guilty to felony charges involving the use of false identifications to obtain employment.

The Weekly Sedra – Parshas Bechukosai

The Rebbe says:

1. The first verse of this week’s Torah portion reads, “Im Bechukosai Tay’lay’choo… – If you will go in My statutes (Chukim)…”

Sarah Garland – the NY Sun

BROOKLYN, NY — As politicians from around the city gather in Crown Heights today to decry rising racial tensions there, some black and Jewish residents there say elected officials are overreacting.

The rally is the third such news conference to call for calm in response to two assaults involving black and Jewish youth that have some public officials warning of the potential for riots like those that wracked the neighborhood in 1991.

Yet most of the culprits — both black and Jewish — are too young to remember the riots, and some community leaders say they are concerned that it’s actually the grown-ups who are stoking a conflict between the groups.
