Man Contests Fines for Having Mezuzah, Photos in his Cab

MONTREAL, Canada — A veteran Montreal cabbie who’s been fined a total of $764 for having photos of his daughter and the founder of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, two mezuzahs and a remembrance poppy in his car is going to court with a special request.

On June 9, Arieh Perecowicz will ask a Montreal Municipal Court judge to delay a ruling on his four tickets until the Quebec Human Rights Commission examines his complaint.

GREENACRES, FL — Menachem Mendel Korf, 8, was an integral part of the creation of a holy, sacred document.

He wrote the Hebrew letter mem in the word “vayomer,” Hebrew for “and he said,” in the third line of a new Torah scroll, the Jewish holy book.

DONETSK, Ukraine — In the lead-up to the Day of Catastrophe and Heroism, which is marked in Ukraine in remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust, the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk hosted a solemn meeting.

Multiple Jewish organizations operating in this industrial region united forces with local authorities to organize this event. Among them were the Jewish community of Donetsk – a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine – the regional Chesed, the ‘Ukraine-Israel’ Society, the Donetsk City Administration, and the Regional Administration.

Accident Causes SUV Rollover

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A loud crash rang though the intersection of Empire Boulevard and Kingston Avenue at around 12:15am last night. According to witnesses the blue Ford SUV was seen crossing the intersection at a high speed when a white sedan hit the SUV in its rear, spinning it out of control then rolling over and coming to a rest on its roof.
