Reveler Shot in Leg at Labor Day Parade

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — A reveler at the West Indian Day parade was shot twice in the leg, and three people were taken into custody for questioning, police said.

The 26-year-old man, who was not named, was taken to a hospital in stable condition after being shot at about 4 p.m. Monday, on Eastern Pkwy and Troy Ave,

In previous years, the event has been marred by tragedy. In 1999, two children died when they were pinned between floats, and hours later a man was run over by a float and killed. In 2005, a man was shot to death.

Last year, police had two reports of violence: a man shot in the leg and another person stabbed.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — After opening two successful restaurants outside of Crown Heights, the founder a resident of Crown Heights decided to open one for his neighbors. The new store located on Kingston Ave [between Montgomery St and Empire Blvd] specializes in salads and toasted baguettes and is known to let customers stuff thier sandwiches and salads with whatever they want. The manager said that they will have their full and extended menu ready for after Tishrei.

Hachnosas Safer Torah amid Labor Day Preps!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – A different kind of music rang through the streets of Crown Heights Sunday afternoon, amid the preparation of the West Indian Day Parade, better known as the Labor Day Parade, residents gathered and danced to Chassidishe Nigunim as they welcomed a newly completed Safer Torah.

The Safer Torah was dedicated in loving memory of R. Sholom DovBer HaCohen OBM and his wife Mrs. Yachet OBM Eichorn by their family.

They were here at Barn 70 on the backside of Saratoga Race Course on Friday morning to see a trainer about a horse. The trainer was Bob Baffert, and the horse, Maimonides, was a fast one who just may capture the Kentucky Derby next May.
