ASHEVILLE, NC — In an effort to ensure that every Jewish individual in Western North Carolina has a place to go for the upcoming High Holy Days, Chabad, for the first time, will be holding its Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at the new Chabad Center, 660 Merrimon Ave.

JERUSALEM, Israel — The new school year brings with it innovative (and questionable) methods of guaranteeing students' attendance as students of a Jerusalem high school found on their first day of school last week. 
 
Pupils of the Chabad movement's Beit Hannah girls' high school in Jerusalem were surprised to find upon arrival that the school had installed a biometric fingerprint identification device.

BROOKLYN, NY — Rabbis in Brooklyn's Orthodox Jewish and Hasidic communities are taking a hard look at an annual religious ceremony in which the faithful swing live chickens over their heads.

Called kapparot, the fowl-whirling event occurs each year between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur - which take place next month - and is meant to transfer the sins of the believer to the chicken, which is then sacrificed.

Tow trucks will be going around starting at 4 PM towing and relocating violators.
