Rabbi Focused on Jewish Outreach

Courier News Online

Clinton, NJ — As founder of Chabad of Hunterdon County, Rabbi Eli Kornfeld said he is living his goal of working to enrich the lives of Jewish people.

The Clinton-based Chabad just celebrated its fourth anniversary, and Kornfeld said the community’s response continues to inspire him to develop outreach programs including religious services, adult education, women and mens’ groups, Hebrew school and “family building” programs.

“Our programs are a nice complement to what families and individuals are already doing, or a start to learning about Judaism,” he said.

Michael Bagraim, National Chairman of the SAJBOD contrasted the current challenge our community faces through the anti-Israel bias we feel from Government with the ever-positive attitude that the Rebbe inspired his followers to bring to South Africa starting from the 1970’s until today. He concluded by sharing his personal story when his own decision not to emigrate was influenced by the arrival of the Chabad Lubavitch Shluchim during that period.

Rabbi Avram Chakoff will soon open a
Jewish community center in DUMBO.

Brooklyn, NY — DUMBO’s only yeshiva has closed — but there’s no Jewish Exodus going on; the yeshiva’s founders are about to open a community center nearby.

Chabad of DUMBO is remodeling a one-story building on Jay Street into a community center rather than continue operating the academy devoted solely to Torah study (which, unlike most, was co-ed).

The move is the result of continued growth of the Jewish population in DUMBO. Forelocks and black hats are becoming a normal sight in a place where goatees and black American Apparel tees are the norm.
