One of the most Jewish “tourist” times of the year in Florida is Pesach, with tens of thousands of guests and visitors packing up their families and spending the holiday in its warm and inviting climate. While these visitors are preparing food, lodging, and entertainment, the Hatzalah organizations in South Florida and Orlando are also preparing, if in a slightly different way.

As a result of the advocacy of Agudath Israel and the Healthy School Meals for All coalition, the New York State Assembly and Senate have included Universal School Nutrition funding in their budgets. This means that the state and Federal government would cover the cost of all students participating in the breakfast and lunch programs, not just students from low-income families.

Albany Supreme Court Strikes Down Key Part of Substantial Equivalency Regulations

The Albany Supreme Court ruled Thursday afternoon that important parts of the recently enacted substantial equivalency regulations exceeded the State Education Department’s authority. Judge Christine Ryba therefore struck from the regulations the provisions that imposed penalties on parents and yeshivas if SED determined that the school was not substantially equivalent.
