As a long-time resident of Crown Heights, I’m deeply troubled by the fear-mongering tactics surfacing in our community elections. Our vibrant neighborhood deserves better than divisive campaigns.
With all the negative changes taking place in New York in the last few years, our neighborhood and community has experienced some of these changes as well, from increased crime to antisemitic incidents. We still have much work to do to restore a sense of safety and security on our streets.

Until there is a significant change in the status quo, and the klepotocracy is replaced, the elections are unlikely to bring about the necessary improvements.

Five candidates for the Vaad Hakohol election have formed a Slate, providing a video outlining their drive to better Crown Heights and make the Shchuna the place the Rebbe wanted it to be.
Currently, the city is proposing a slew of government-funded development projects to be enacted in exactly this area. At this stage, some 2,000 units have already been approved, more than 1,000 of which will be designated homeless housing units. This is a direct threat to the hundreds of Jewish families who’ve settled in the vicinity, as well as to their non-Jewish neighbors, who likewise want clean and safe streets for their families.
Among the eight candidates running for the position of directors of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and Va’ad HaKahal is a united group–a slate–of young men campaigning for change.
