Accident on Lefferts and Albany

The three cars involved; far right [the van], far left [the SUV] and right in front [the van]

Yesterday [Tuesday] at the intersection of Lefferts Ave. & Albany Ave. there was an accident involving 3 cars, one of them were parked. What apparently happened was the driver of the GMC, who was unfamiliar with the treacherous streets of Crown Heights, had been driving up Albany Ave. and not noticing that the 2 way traffic ends at E. New York Ave. and continued driving up. Now being she was going the wrong way there was no traffic signal pointing in her direction at the Lefferts Intersection, and didn’t know to stop, so an oncoming van driven by a Jewish man from the neighborhood had managed to stop just as he hit the side of her SUV, which sent the SUV out of control, then slamming into a parked car, seriously damaging it.

Hatzalah responded and took the driver of the van to KCH for observation, while the passengers of the SUV refused medical attention.

Is Our Regular Accident Hotspot Contagious?

Yitchok Wagshul – Crown Heights Chronicle

Just one night after one end of the street was blocked with emergency vehicles for repair of a gas leak, the other end of Lefferts Avenue became the scene of a nighttime emergency—this time after a car smashed into another vehicle and a light pole.

According to auxiliary police at the scene, two cars were involved in the collision at the intersection of Lefferts and Albany Avenues sometime before 10:00 p.m. Ironically, the accident was caused by one of the cars attempting to clear the way for an unrelated emergency vehicle that was approaching at the time. The car in question apparently tried to make room by entering the intersection against the light, only to collide with the second vehicle.

Several injuries were sustained and the parties taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Fuel spill causes 16-mile backup on New York Thruway

WCBS

A fuel spill on the New York State Thruway in Orange County caused a 16-mile backup on Monday afternoon.

The 80-gallon spill resulted from a tractor-trailer accident at 4:19 p.m. on Interstate 87 between Harriman and Sloatsburg, about 45 minutes north of New York City.

All southbound lanes and one northbound lane were closed until 7:40 p.m.

The accident occurred when 42-year-old Maria Astadjov of Quebec swerved to avoid debris while traveling northbound on the Thruway, said Trooper Manuel Rodriguez.

A van and tractor-trailer traveling behind her swerved to avoid a collision, sending the tractor-trailer through the median and into the southbound side of the highway.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 54-year-old Thomas A. Spagnola of Hagaman, was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Suffern for minor back and neck injuries.

No charges have been filed, Rodriguez said.

NJ Turnpike Closed After Tractor Trailer Accident

A flatbed tractor trailer, carrying twin 12,000 pound spools of rolled steel, jackknifed in the northbound lanes near Exit 7A in Bordentown, dumping its cargo onto the roadbed.

Turnpike authorities says the roadway was damaged and engineering crews are still en route to the scene.

The cause of the accident is not known but all lanes of the Turnpike are closed northbound at exit 7A.

Traffic is being diverted off the northbound Turnpike and drivers should expect massive rubber necking delays southbound as well.

Exit 7A takes traffic to Great Adventure and other shore points so the impact of this accident and road closing will be significant.

There is 13 mile delay going north and a 16 mile delay going south, good luck getting to the country (if you are not already there).
