To protect the privacy of the injured I didn’t feel it was right to take any pictures.

Thats the best thing I have seen on this site in a long time.

  • wow

Since when has that been an issue?
I’m quit sure that there have been pictures of accidents that u have taken.
What about that boy that was hit by the verizon truck or wtvr. I saw pretty close up pictures of that.

There is something called pt. confidentiallity. Unless you have consent from them you can not post these things (names, pictures or their medical condition). When it is a minor you have to have a parent’s consent.

It is not right to chase any of the emergency Response teams with your camera. I refer to all that operate in CH. I guess being that you are a Shomrim member you can respond when they put out a call (as long as you are not infringing on anyone elses toes).

to concerened lawyer: i thought webby said no more bashing lol anywayz, since when cant a person "chase" emergency vehicles? how do you think all the news shows and newspapers get all their information??
and to webby: "ma nishtana ha’layla hazeh??" howcome only THIS time you "could not take pictures"? all the other times were not a problem.
    just curious.

What did you all want to see? A man getting strapped to a backboard? A whole bunch of Hatzalah members get aggravated? See the man being loaded onto the ambulance?

In the past you can all look at my pictures and see that all I ever took a picture of was damage to a vehicle or the hazard on the road the caused the accident or in the case of the child that got hit by the Verizon van you see the medical personal all over him around the front of the van, but not a single picture of the kid himself, in that case all you saw was him assumingly under the truck.

But in this case there was no car, if the guy who hit him hadn’t run off, you would see a picture of that guy and his car with or without damage.

And lawyer is right it “isn’t right to chase these types of calls” but he didn’t say it isn’t allowed, because there is nothing wrong in doing it, other then the moral and ethical problems one should have with doing it.

So there were no pictures to see this time because there was nothing to see, that’s all. Oh and by the way I got 3 phone calls telling/asking me what was going on “on Eastern Parkway in front of 770”.

First of all, when you say "pt confidentiallity" I asume that you are refering to HIPAA regulations, which covers all personal information that a CAREGIVER (doctor, emt, law enforcement etc.) is privileged to. it does not cover speculation from the media or a bystander.

second, it is completely legal to take and publish pictures taken in public places. do you realy think that every newspaper and news network has a legal team obtaining consent for every story they print/broadcast?

  • a fellow sympathizer

I agree with Mr know it all.
It is nice to be concerned about pt (patients) privacy and all, but there are no legal concerns with taking public pics, in public places. all those front page pics in the papers and on TV broadcasts… do they ask everyone around (or even he main subject) for permission to post them??
Sometimes the guy can’t even talk, or they can’t release his name because the next of kin hasn’t even been informed yet. But the pictures are still there!!

However, don’t get me wrong i still agree with webby for not posting any pics here because it is morally (and halachicaly) improper to bring embarrassment to another Jew. Quite for the same reason that ambulances have tinted/frosted windows, and medical personnel usually employ crowd control. It’s just improper to impose yourself on the victim, just when they are most vulnerable. How much more so if they are unable to reject it, due to their medical condition.
