Rabbi Chaim Leib and Miki Hilel will IYH be going on Shlichus to California. They will be setting up a new Chabad House to service the California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and the surrounding communities.

The new Shluchim were appointed by Rabbi Cunin.

ULY’s 6th Graders Express Their Avodah!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — As part of the Chayolei Tzivos Hashem program, students of Lubavitcher Yeshiva, went all out with an interactive expo portraying the role of man’s avoda. Four units of the 6th grade division hammered out talented, creative and meaning-full exibits on the themes of Torah, Avoda, Gemilas Chassodim and Tzedaka. Parents and relatives, as well as passers-by, we’re all invited to vote for the best exihibit. At the end of a long night – one unit managed to pull slightly ahead of the others by just 3 votes – Unit Tzedaka!

Boruch Dayan Hoemes – Dr. Chaim Aryeh Bloom OBM

With sadness we inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Chaim Aryeh Bloom OBM after an illness, he was 57. Dr. Bloom dutifully served the Chabad community of Sydney, Australia as a physician, and as a Mohel who performed over 2000 circumcision for adults.

He is survived by his wife Aidel and children Carmella Markowitz (Flatbush, NY), Talia Broner (California), Sarah Pugen (Toronto) R. Yonah, Tuvia Mendel, Shalom DovBer, Yeshaya Simcha, and Shaina Bracha.

The Levaya will take place on Wednesday at 2:00pm at Chevra Kidasha.

ASPEN, CO — Opposition appears to be growing over a proposal to establish a Jewish community center on the east end of Aspen.

The Aspen City Council at its meeting tonight is likely to hear from dozens of people who oppose the Jewish Community Center moving into the Silver Lining Ranch, a former nonprofit facility that for seven years provided a retreat for kids afflicted with cancer. The facility has largely been underutilized since 2006.

Three months after an apparent anti-Semitic attack left the cafeteria of S. Denis, France’s Chabad-Lubavitch center severely charred, the local Jewish community reports one of the largest Passover gatherings in the Paris suburb.

In addition, say community leaders, the Ohr Menachem Chabad House directed by Rabbi Yisroel and Rivky Belinow distributed food and financial assistance to some 70 needy families this holiday season, the highest number in recent memory. Yisroel Belinow attributed the increased need to the state of the economy.
